Welcoming Our Robot Vacuum Cleaners: Increasing Cleanliness and Productivity Through Technology

Several Traditions Management communities have recently taken a step into the future by deploying robots to vacuum the carpets in our communities. These robot vacuum cleaners from SoftBank Robotics help differentiate our communities as innovative and forward-looking. Embracing technology like this doesn’t just make our communities more inviting and engaging places to live; it can also make them cleaner, healthier, and safer for our residents.

Embracing Technology
According to SoftBank, “autonomous cleaning solutions like Whiz, the commercial robot vacuum, can keep your facility pristine in a fraction of the time and effort.” Deploying these robots may remove one task off our employees’ plates, affording them more time to interact, engage, and delight our residents.
Communities that have deployed the Whiz robot include:
- Traditions of Saginaw
- Traditions of Deerfield
- Traditions of Lebanon
- Traditions of Beavercreek
- Traditions at Camargo
- Traditions at North Bend
A Successful Trial In Ohio
Traditions of Beavercreek, located in Beavercreek, Ohio, was one of the first senior living communities in the country to trial one of SoftBank Robotics’ Whiz commercial robot vacuums. Affectionately named R2Clean2, a riff of R2-D2, the name of the popular droid companion in the Star Wars films, by the Beavercreek residents, this smart little helper is more than just a cleaning machine; it’s a conversation starter. The residents are intrigued by its presence in their community. With its gentle hum and blinking turn signals, R2Clean2 navigates common areas without disrupting daily life. R2Clean2 cleans through pre-programmed routes throughout the community, avoids obstacles, and responds quickly to changes. It does need some assistance from a human getting in and out of the elevator when it’s ready to clean upstairs.
“The noise level is low enough to maintain peace, and it’s even pet-friendly, tackling fur and kitty litter with ease, which is particularly important here at Beavercreek, since we currently foster kittens,” Dana, a housekeeper at Traditions of Beavercreek, said.

Welcome In Memory Care
Even in Memory Care units, the robot has been a welcome addition. There have been no concerns, and it’s even proven helpful during therapy dog visits—keeping up with the shedding so residents can enjoy the companionship without the cleanup.
Wrap Up
As technology continues to evolve, so does the way we care for our communities. Traditions Management is committed to finding ways to care for our residents and our communities properly. Investing in technological advancements like this allows our human workers to provide better, more personal care while offloading repetitive but essential tasks.
